Twitter thread maker
Paste a long draft and split it into a thread. Each post is kept to 280 characters, counted the same way as the X editor, and you can add the numbering styles that editor already offers.
The maker does not write new copy and it does not post to X. It preserves your sentences and breaks only when the next sentence would pass the limit. Drag-to-reorder and the AI thread builder stay in the full editor.

2 posts
- Post 1258 / 280
The first line of a thread has one job: make a specific person stop. Name the outcome, not the topic. Then give them a reason to open the next post. A thread works when each post can stand alone and still pulls the reader forward. Keep one idea per post. 1/2
- Post 2278 / 280
End the last post with a question that has a real answer. That is the whole mechanic. This splitter only breaks the draft on sentences and words so every post stays within 280 characters. It does not rewrite you. Write the next post as if the reader might only see that one. 2/2
How to use it
- 01
Paste the whole draft
One idea can run longer than a single post. Leave real sentence endings so the split prefers those breaks over cutting a phrase in half. Blank lines are folded into spaces before the split, so put each sentence in words rather than relying on line breaks.
- 02
Pick a numbering style
Choose 1/n, the thread emoji, “Thread 1/n”, a plain “1.”, or no number. These are the numbering options stored in the X editor.
- 03
Read each post against the 280 cap
Each card shows the code-point count, including the number at the end. If a single word is longer than the limit, it is split by character as a last resort.
- 04
Copy the thread
Copy all posts to get the same “--- Tweet N ---” separators the X editor uses when you copy a thread. Paste each post into X, or open the editor to keep working.
Questions
How does the split work?
The maker breaks on sentence endings first, then on words, so each post stays within 280 characters after the numbering label is added. It does not rewrite your sentences. The full X editor can also send a long draft to the AI assistant when you want it reshaped into a thread.
Which numbering styles can I use?
The same set as the X editor: 1/n, a thread emoji plus 1/n, Thread 1/n, 1., or no number. The label is added at the end of each post, and its length is reserved so the numbered post still fits in 280 characters.
Can a thread post be longer than 280 characters?
Not in Threadly. Every post in a thread is held to 280 characters, including on the Premium preview. A single Premium post or an X Article in the full editor can run up to 25,000 characters. This page only builds a standard thread.
Will this publish the thread?
No. Copy the posts and paste them into X, or keep editing in the X editor. Threadly does not connect to an X account.
Can I reorder posts here?
This page numbers posts from top to bottom in the order you wrote them. Drag-to-reorder, per-post formatting, and saved drafts are in the X editor.
Want drag-to-reorder or an AI rewrite?
The X editor stores drafts locally, lets you reorder posts, apply Unicode formatting per post, and ask the free AI assistant to turn a long note into a thread. This page only splits and numbers the words you already wrote.
